What aspects of teaching elementary surprised you?
I was surprised at how different a single year of age difference makes the teaching experience different. When we went to a third grade class first and the children seemed very interested in knowing specific Chinese phrases only. They didn’t really want to participate. However, the second class we had was of second graders and they were genuinely interested in the language and wanted to learn and participate as much as possible.
The aspects of teaching elementary that surprised me the most was their attentiveness and the eagerness they carried to learn a new language.
There were a few aspects of teaching elementary that surprised me. One of them was how NOT scary it was, I was very nervous but it wasn’t anything to be scared about. The teacher helped keep the kids calm which was great. Another aspect that surprised me was how interested the kids were. They were actually interested and fascinated at the thought of learning such a cool language as Chinese.
The aspects that surprised me was the ability of the kids to understand everything that was being taught to them in a way that they were able to write and say the Chinese characters.
I was really surprised by the amount of excitement the kids had towards learning a new language, and how attentive they were to what I was teaching.
One thing that surprised me is that the kids were all very nice. I was expecting them to be a little more wild and out of control, but they were very well behaved for the most part. Of course, there’s the occasional loudness and talking while I was teaching but they still paid attention to what I had to teach.
How was your teaching elementary experience?
My teaching elementary experience was great overall.
My teaching elementary experience was astonishing it genuinely exceeded my expectations .
My elementary teaching experience was quite fun. The kids were funny and made it fun. They were nice as well which was important. I know little kids can be a handful but with the teachers assistance they stayed calm.
My experience teaching these kids was better than I thought, I struggled at first until I got the hang of it.
Teaching the elementary kids definitely made me want to become a teacher, even though that’s not what I want to do. I didn’t expect myself to like it, but it exceeded my expectations by a lot.
My teaching experience was very good. Everyone was friendly, and I felt like a kid again when I was teaching the other kids how to count numbers in Chinese Mandarin.
What activities/games did you give the class?
We played various games with the different classes and had activities depending on their age. In general, we played guess the word, remember the phrase and meaning, match phrase with Hanzi, and had some students come to he front of the class and help their peers pronounce certain words.
Activities we did was teach them how to count and teach them the way in which it’s written . They would come up to the front of the classroom to point at the Hanzi.
A few activities we did in the class were learning numbers, colors, phrases and practicing writing Hanzi. The kids quickly picked up the numbers and were able to repeat them back to us. They love colors, so they were excited to learn to say their favorite colors. We taught them to say their favorite food and how to say that they’re hungry. Some of them were excited and wanted to remember what we taught them so they wrote the Hanzi down.
I had the students go up to the board and write the Chinese characters they wanted to from the ones I taught, and after I had them repeat what color and how you say it.
I started and ended the class the exact same way we do in our own class, just to give them a little feel for how it is for me. Everything I wrote down on the board, I had them write down on a piece of paper so they could keep it, study it, and be able to show their parents when they got home. At one point, I called up several students, and I would see who could point at the Hanzi I was saying the fastest. They really liked and kept wanting to continue, but there was not enough time. /:
I gave the kids the opportunity to write in Chinese, as well as speak along with me. I also let them give me questions, and I answered them to the best of my ability.
How would you improve your teaching?
I would ask my teacher what ages we would get in advance and prepare accordingly.
I would improve my teaching by starting with a introduction and calling on more students to participate.
A way I can improve my teaching is by being a bit more organized and doing things in a correct order. I feel like the lesson we gave could have been more structured. The lesson plan overall was good but it would do us good to improve on that a bit.
I can improve my teaching if I can get my introductions better on what I’m teaching and how to teach it.
I think I could improve my teaching by involving the students even more. Even though I did pull some up to the front, I think they would’ve liked being more active.
I’d improve my teaching by explaining the concepts I tried to teach better. I feel like some things that I taught, the kids didn’t understand some of it.
Out of 10, how would you rate your overall teaching experience?
My experience was over a 10.
10分。
I would rate my teaching experience an 8 out 10. It was fun and the teacher in the class was of great assistance. I really enjoyed it because it felt nice to be the teacher for the moment. Since I’m always the student in class and listen to the teacher, it was nice to switch it up and feel what it feels like to be the teacher for a bit.
Out of 10, I would give my experience a 7/10.
7分。
I’d say a solid 10 out of 10. I really really enjoyed it, and the kids I got made it even better because of how cooperative they were.
I’d say my overall teaching experience was a 9/10.
9分。
